Matthew Walczynski

Our Classmate, Matthew James Walczynski passed away on November 16, 2009 after contracting the H1N1 flu. He was born on April 23, 1977 and graduated from Denfeld in 1995. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from UMD and was employed as a quality analyst for Optium Health in Duluth. Matt was 32 years old.


Raymond Impola

Our classmate, Ray Impola died unexpectedly on March 31, 2009. He was 32 years old and is survived by a daughter Tess. Ray attended Morgan Park J.H. and Denfeld H.S. in Duluth.

Damon Campanella

Our Classmate, Damon M. Campanella died in a car accident while on his way to school on May 27, 1994. He attended Stowe, Morgan Park J.H., Proctor S.H., and Denfeld. Damon was 16 years old.


Katie Kowalik

Our Classmate, Katie E. Kowalik passed away at her home on November 18, 1991. She attended Morgan Park J.H. and Denfeld. Katie was 15 years old.

NEW REUNION UPDATE: The Denfeld High School Class of 1995 Ten Year Reunion was held on August 26-27, 2005.

Amanda Wenberg took part in the national MTV show TWELVE ANGERY VIEWERS and was a VJ finalist. Mandy is also an actress with the Renegade Comedy Theater and took the best lead actress award for her roll in Desdemona.
Dustin Hagin & Jennifer Madill got married and own the Madill Dance Center in Duluth. Jennifer has a BFA in dance and musical theater from Marymount Manhattan College in New York. Dustin received a BA in musical theater at AMDA in New York. Dustin and Jennifer have performed in many shows and musicals. Jennifer was Denfeld's 1995 Homecoming Queen and went on to win as Minnesota State Homecoming Queen.

Deena Moore operates the D.E.E.N.O.S. Planet Gymnastics school in Rincon and Springfield Georgia.

While attending Winona State University, Kevin Odberg was selected to participate in the International Broadcasting Seminar in London and to work as an intern at CNN International, the BBC, and the Voice of America radio headquarters in Washington, DC. In 2004, Odberg was selected to take part in the national television show "Natural Golf Makeover Challenge" on The Golf Channel. Kevin works as a marketing representative for a law firm in Hartford, Connecticut.

spent $49 on his run for the Duluth City Council in 2003. He didn't win but managed to get 2400 votes, beat out two other people, and got the endorsement of a local radio talk show host. Mike has worked in both television and radio and is a webmaster.

Jeremy D. Jones became an Engineer Sgt. and graduated from Fort Bragg, NC, and received his green beret. Jeremy was also stationed with the 10 Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Miles Froberg joined the U.S. Army and served in the Persian Gulf region.

Jesse Verhel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio in 2002.

Pete Kreminski came in 2nd in the 1998 William A. Irvin 5-kilometer race and was UWS's number one runner.

Dave Gunderson was playing hockey for Providence in 1997 when for the first time had to play against is brother Mark who played hockey for UMD.

Erik Holmstrom became a Political Field Representative for the MN House Republican Caucus.

Corwin Pederson has played in a modern rock band called "Average Sun" for several years. The group released a CD called "Fireball" in 2003.

Rebecca Olson became a Registered Nurse.

Brian Black became a 1st Class Air Force Airman and a student with the Department of Defense Louis F. Garland Fire Academy in 2000. You may recall that Brian had the unfortunate typo in the 1995 Denfeld Oracle. His first name was mistakenly spelled "Brain Black".

Dan Anderson became an Electrician.

Jeff Ronn became a Locksmith.

Brett Gunderson taught for the Grand Rapids, MN. Public Schools.

Chris Waters became a teacher in Grand Forks, ND.

Marc Kopp became a painting contractor and operated Marc Kopp Painting in Minneapolis.

Kari Schinn became a teacher for the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

Dan McNitt served in the U.S. Air Force as a Flight Refueler.

David Stevens got involved with real estate and became the landlord of multiple dwellings.

Jennifer Peterson became a Music Teacher in Glenville, MN.

Josh Robinson joined the U.S. Coast Guard and became a Marine Science Tech.
Dominic Stadler served in the U.S. Marines with the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Jeremy Vercelline became a pro bartender & bartender trainer. Jeremy won 1st place in a ShowTenders BarTending Competition in 2001.

Sadly, several Denfeld staff members have passed away since we graduated:

Mr. Holliday served as Denfeld's principal from 1991 to 1995.

Mrs. Johnson served as Denfeld's librarian.

   Mr. Steve H. Letica (February 9, 1951 - June 23, 1995)
Steve served as a Denfeld custodian from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's.

   Mrs. Linda Soderstrom (February 26, 1948 - June 6, 1998)
Linda taught Peer Helper class at Denfeld & Home Economics at Morgan Park.

FRESHMAN YEAR: September 1991 - June 1992

George Holliday becomes Denfeld's new principal.

A new school spirit group called "The Force" began.

According to the October 1991 Denfeld Criterion, Heather Jeannette "likes Denfeld alot", and Scott Christiansen "would like to become a pro football player".

On October 31, 1991 Duluth gets three feet of snow during the Halloween Mega Storm.

Sadly, our classmate Katie Kowalik passed away on November 18, 1991.

According to the November 1991 Criterion, Chris Waters enjoys listening to "Another Bad Creation" and "Boyz to Men", Peter MacInnes has a secret desire to meet George Bush, and Bryan Page wants to be a "big rich President".

According to the December 1991 Criterion, Anna Greiner's worst subject is government, Kevin Odberg's favorite food is pizza, Robyn Hiestand enjoys ice skating, and Erik Holmstrom's favorite TV show is "Brooklyn Bridge".

According to the January 1992 Criterion, Jenny Erchul is part of "The Force" and likes to show school spirit, Andy Zapp plays hockey & baseball, and Jeremy Bellamy has a cat named Perky.

Outcome Based Education (OBE) is latest craze in education and takes Denfeld by storm and the students by surprise.

According to the February 1992 Criterion, Roberta Paul maintains a 3.3 GPA, Kari Schinn spends her free time talking on the phone, Ryan Bard's favorite class is Phy-Ed, and Nate Puglisi wants to become a doctor.

According to the March 1992 Criterion, Becky Ronn was born in Canada, Brett Gunderson would like to travel to Spain but doesn't like his Spanish class, and Jeremy Jones likes listening to the "New Kids On The Block".

A for profit group runs the Duluth School District and Mae Gaskins is the acting superintendent.

According to the April 1992 Criterion, Ryan Marshall loves to watch "Mork & Mindy", Andrea Cartier is involved in swimming and softball, and Bill Abbett's most embarrassing moment was when he walked in to the girls washroom at Burger King.

Assistant Principal, Lisa Mitchell leaves Denfeld and is replaced by Bill Westholm.

Scott Campbell becomes Denfeld's first liaison police officer.

The cast of Denfeld's Spoon River Anthology include Sophomores Matt Dobosinski, Sarah Foldesi, Dusty Hagen, Dan McNitt, Jenny Peterson, Mandy Wenberg, Liz Zissos, and Andrea Cartier.

gets to take four days off from school to be an extra in the Walt Disney movie Iron Will. Denfeld's Mr. Overland also worked on the movie.

Mr. Vukelich was invited to see the inauguration of President Bill Clinton.

Andrea Cartier was a Denfeld Top Jock in the January 1993 Criterion.

Jessi Gravelle was a Denfeld Top Jock in the February 1993 Criterion.

The World Trade Center in New York was bombed on February 26, 1993.

Denfeld student Shanon Daniluk died on April 6, 1993 after falling off a cliff in Gary-New Duluth.

On April 19, 1993 the Branch Dividian compound in Waco Texas went up in flames after a long stand-off with federal agents. About 80 people died in the fire.

Jenny Ells was a Denfeld Top Jock in the May-June 1993 Criterion.

JUNIOR YEAR: September 1993 - June 1994

Mrs. Teberg takes over as Denfeld's new Assistant Principal.

Denfeld's 1993 Fall Football Cheerleaders include Juniors Jennifer Madill, Deena Moore, Cara Liebaert, Amy Fairchild, and Heather Peterson. The Vollyball Cheerleaders include Juniors Jamie Larson, Jenny Nephew, and Tiffany Lilliberg.

Deena Moore made the All American Team at the NCA Cheerleading Camp in August 1993. Deena later took part in Hawaii's Aloha Bowl.

Sadly, we lost our classmate Damon Campanella on May 27, 1994. Damon was killed in a car accident on his way to school.

was asked some questions by a Duluth News-Tribune reporter about Denfeld. Unfortunatly, Mike was quoted the next day in the newspaper referring to Denfeld's assistant principal Mrs. Teberg, as a warden.

Steve Latour becomes Denfeld's new police liaison officer.

Jennifer Madill and Ryan Marshall are crowned as Denfeld's 1994 Homecoming Queen and King.

President Clinton visited Duluth.

The November 1994 Denfeld Criterion Senior Stars were Julie Zbaracki and Matt Dobosenski, the Top Jock was Erik Holmstrom, and the Hunter Without A Jersey was Kelly Zaudtke.

Mr. Holliday leaves Denfeld to work as Director of Operations for Duluth Public Schools. Mr Ken Hegle takes over as Denfeld's new principal.

The January 1995 Denfeld Criterion Senior Stars were Dave Gunderson and Cristen Cannon, and the Hunter Without A Jersey was Stacy Kraak.

Denfeld's DECA president is Eric Peterson.

The February 1995 Denfeld Criterion Senior Stars were Tim Watkins and Robyn Hiestand, and the Hunter Without A Jersey was Matt Gunnarson.

Denfeld Junior Cal Hughes is arrested and charged with sexually assaulting four teenage girls from 1994 to 1995. Two of the girls were Denfeld students who were assaulted at Denfeld during school hours. Hughes later pleads guilty to all four assaults and is sentenced to two years at the Northeast Regional Corrections Center.

On April 19, 1995 the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City was bombed killing 168 people.

The Denfeld Prom was held on May 13th at the Radisson's Great Hall.

The May-June 1994 Denfeld Criterion Senior Stars were Sarah Foldesi and Ryan Sather, the Top Jock was Ryan Aho, and the Hunter Without A Jersey was Ken Jordan.

The 1995 Denfeld Honor King and Queen were Jay Mickolajak and Jamie Larson, and the Senior Speakers were Matt Dobosenski and Sarah Foldesi.

The 1995 Senior Class Banquet was held on May 17th aboard the Vista Star.

Graduation was held in the Denfeld Auditorium on June 8th followed by the All-Night Grad party at MacArthur West Elementry. The party included all the pizza you could eat, Moon Boxing, Sumo Wrestling, A Casino, Movies, Volleyball, Line Dancing, Baby Pictures, and a Hypnotist.

SEVENTH GRADE September 1989 - June 1990

When the class of 1995 was in 7th grade, Morgan Park was functioning as a Junior High. 1990 was the last year that the school had a 9th grade class before moving it to Denfeld. Mr Vomachka was Morgan Park's Principal and Mrs. DeRosier was the Assistant Principal.

Jenny Madill was a 1989-1990 Morgan Park cheerleader.

Sarah Foldesi is pictured in the December 1989 WildCats Chronicle spining a basketball with Sandy "Spin" Slade.

In May 1990, Morgan Park put on a murder mystery play called the Calamityville Terror. Cast members include our classmate Jenny Peterson.
